A Review on Anti-Dip Bedding Rock Slopes Subjected to Flexural Toppling
نویسندگان
چکیده
Flexural toppling is typically observed in anti-dip bedding rock slopes with a set of steeply dipping parallel joints against the slope face. This failure occurs due to bending strata, similar cantilever beams. However, exact surface usually unknown, which leads an assumption regarding location and shape that must be made theoretical analysis. serves as basis for stability analysis but may lead errors if it not appropriate. Therefore, this study, we provide detailed systematic review mechanical model, precondition, patterns primary controlling factors, morphological characteristics surfaces, methods stability. We also introduce two practical application cases better understand advantages, disadvantages, scope these methods. Additionally, discuss existing issues potential future research developments field.

Flexural Toppling Failure in Rock Slopes: From Theory to Applications
Toppling failure is one of the most common modes of failure of rock slopes in layered rock strata. Flexural toppling is one of the well-known modes of the failure. This type of failure occurs due to bending stress. In this article, a brief yet comprehensive review of toppling failure is presented. Firstly, the conditions and general mechanism of the failure are described. Then, experimental, th...

متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Rock Slopes with a Potential of Block-Flexural Toppling Failure
One of the most important instabilities of rock slopes is toppling failure. Among the types of toppling failure, block-flexural failures are more common instability which occurs in nature. In this failure, some rock blocks break because of tensile stresses, and some overturn under their weights, and next to all of them topple together. Physical and theoretical modeling of this failure is studie...
متن کاملInvestigation on the Stability of Rock Slopes Subjected to Tension Cracks via Limit Analysis
Based on the kinematic approach of limit analysis, a full set of upper bound solutions for the stability of homogeneous rock slopes subjected to tension cracks are obtained. The generalized Hoek-Brown failure criterion is employed to describe the non-linear strength envelope of rocks. In this paper, critical failure mechanisms are determined for cracks of known depth but unspecified location, c...
متن کاملPhysical and theoretical modeling of rock slopes against block-flexure toppling failure
Block-flexure is the most common mode of toppling failure in natural and excavated rock slopes. In such failure, some rock blocks break due to tensile stresses and some overturn under their own weights and then all of them topple together. In this paper, first, a brief review of previous studies on toppling failures is presented. Then, the physical and mechanical properties of experimental mode...
